👨‍💼
Mayor of Fresno
Jerry Dyer
Serving since January 4, 2021 · Re-elected 2024

Jerry Dyer was born and raised in Fresno, California, where he built a 36-year career with the Fresno Police Department — rising from patrol officer to become Chief of Police, a position he held from 2001 until his retirement in 2020.

As Police Chief, Dyer became one of the most recognized law enforcement leaders in the Central Valley, earning a reputation for community-oriented policing, transparency, and crime reduction. He oversaw the department through periods of significant growth and reform, and was widely credited with building stronger relationships between officers and residents.

In November 2020, Dyer was elected Mayor of Fresno, defeating five other candidates. He took office on January 4, 2021, becoming the 48th Mayor of Fresno. He was re-elected in 2024, reflecting continued support from Fresno's diverse community.

Mayor Dyer's administration has focused on public safety, economic development, homelessness solutions, and infrastructure improvements throughout the city. His priorities include expanding affordable housing, attracting business investment to Fresno, improving road conditions, and creating more pathways out of poverty for residents in underserved neighborhoods.

He has championed initiatives like the Fresno HEART (Homeless Engagement and Response Team) and has worked closely with Fresno County and state agencies to coordinate resources for vulnerable populations. Dyer is also a vocal advocate for the San Joaquin Valley and regularly represents Fresno's interests in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.

Mayor Dyer is a graduate of Fresno State and holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership. He and his wife Lori are longtime Fresno residents and community members.
